The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at ASU seeks applicants for a tenure-track/tenured faculty position in artificial intelligence and reasoning. Areas of interest include natural language processing, automated reasoning, multi-agent systems, uncertainty in AI and knowledge representation, but the originality and potential impact of the candidate’s work has higher priority than the specific area of research.
The AI group in the School of Computing, Informatics, and Decision Systems Engineering, one of the six Fulton Schools, includes faculty working on a variety of topics including natural language processing, automated planning, knowledge representation and machine learning with applications in robotics, security and intelligent tutors. Extensive collaborations exist across the university, including the School of Human Evolution and Social Change, Department of Biomedical Informatics, School of Criminology & Criminal Justice and the Center for the Study of Religion and Conflict. The current opening is intended to broaden this expertise and expand collaborations.
Faculty members are expected to develop an internationally recognized and externally funded research program, adopt innovative educational practices in graduate and undergraduate education, develop and teach graduate and undergraduate courses, advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students and undertake service activities. Appointment will be at the assistant, associate or full professor rank, commensurate with the candidate’s experience and accomplishments, starting August 2017.

- A record of acquiring external funding and publication in top-tier journals/conferences with real-world impact
- A commitment to a transdisciplinary approach to research and teaching
